Hedychium coronarium Koenig (coronarious gingerlily)

Family zingiberaceae

A perennial herb and like all zingiberaceae plants, the Hedychium coronarium Koenig (coronarious gingerlily) has developed underground rhizomes. Its broadly lanceolate leaves are glossy on the up side and hairy on the down side with membranous blades. With erect top spikes, the coronarious gingerlily has green broad bracts, arranging in imbrication. Shooting from bracts, its white flowers are so fragrant that many people like to arrange a bunch of the coronarious gingerlilies in the house both for its elegant color and fragrance. What surprises people most is its flowers. Those white corollas are petaloid stamens. The real petals are so threadlike that they don’t catch people’s eye. Stamens and pistils together form a club shape, positioning in the center of the flower.
