Pyracantha koidzumii (Hay.) Rehder (Taitung Firethorn)

Family rosaceae

Of the same family as the rugosa rose and the multiflora rose, the Pyracantha koidzumii (Hay.) Rehder (Taitung Firethorn) is an evergreen shrub. It has young twigs with brown short hairs, thorns on the stalks. The thorns will stretch on and on, with three to five leaves clustering at them. Its small leaves take whorled shape. The leaves are three to four centimeters long, one to one point five centimeters wide, and mostly oblong or slightly obovate shape for the entire leaf. Occasionally the leaf edges are serrated. There are sparse brown hairs on the inflorescence, many little white flowers clustering into a semi-spheric shape and ripe fruit turning red, making it suitable for watching flowers and appreciating fruit, which is why it becomes a garden tree or high-class bonsai.
