An evergreen bush or small arbor, the Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack. var. omphalocarpa (Hayata) Swingle (common jasmine orange) is smooth for the whole plant. A bipinnate with round oval alternate leaflets, the length of which is from 4 to 7 centimeters, it has askew bases. The entire leaves have coriaceous substance and leaf stalks about the length from 0.2 to 0.5 centimeters. The common jasmine orange has big flowers with 5 petals. It has 10 stamens, 5 long and 5 short. The flower stalks are 0.3 to 0.4 in length. Its fruit is oval, about 2 centimeters long. The common jasmine orange is a local variant of its mother species. The difference lies in that the variant has smaller leaves, and bigger flowers and fruit. Because of its hard wood, it often serves as rigger material for building Tao ships in Orchid Island. Besides, it can also be used as an ornamental plant.
