Excoecaria agallocha L. (blinding tree)

Family euphorbiaceae

A small evergreen tree, the Excoecaria agallocha L. (blinding tree), producing milk, mostly grows in estuarine marshes and is an associated plant with mangrove forests. It has elliptic or ovate leaves, with alternately coriaceous substance, glands on the bases, and overall or partly wavy edges. Its light yellow flowers are terminal or axillary. Dioecious and apetalose, it has three calyxes for the male and three lobed calyxes for the female and three ovary rooms. Its milk is poisonous; yet, the tree trunk can be used as a substitute of worship incense or construction material.
