Clerodendrum kaempferi(Jacq.)Sieb. ex Steud. (scarlet glorybower)
Family verbenaceae
An evergreen shrub, the Clerodendrum kaempferi(Jacq.)Sieb. ex Steud. (scarlet glorybower) has 4-sided stems. The leaves are broadly ovate or heart-shaped, often showing 3 to 5 slight crevices. There are hairs on the twig nodes. Large-scale terminal panicles have orange-red cylindrical corollas, whose filaments extend out of the tubes. It is in full bloom in summer. The ripe drupes are dark blue. A strong plant, growing well in broad daylight or semi-sunshine, it is distributed in low altitude mountain areas in Taiwan. It is called “dragon boat flower” in Mandarin Chinese because in southern Chinese mainland it blossoms around Dragon Boat Festival. But because of the hot weather in Taiwan, it blooms except in winter.
