Gorsachius melanolophus

Family ardeidae/ resident bird

Months of Appearance: From January to December.

With a length of 47 centimeters, a Gorsachius melanolophus (Malaysian night heron) has a black beak, yellow green legs, blue eye lines, black crests on the head, dark crimson shade with black fine lines on the back, crimson shade from face to chest, and light brown shade with dark vertical stripes on the abdomen. When flying, its wing quills, with red shade on the tip (While its primaries are white on the tip.), show black wide band. Its chicks are gray brown on the back, densely covered with black fine lines.

The Gorsachius melanolophus often shows up in the dense forests of low elevation areas. It builds its nest on a strong horizontal branch and forms the strange movement of twitching its neck. When disturbed, it raises its head and holds still, and erects the crests if someone gets too close to it.
