Location of Appearance: Big ponds.

With a length of 90 centimeters, the egretta alba (great Egret)is all white from top to bottom. It has long neck and legs, with black feet and toes. In summer seasons, it grows black beak and develops long decorative feathers below the neck and on the back; while in winter seasons, there are no decorative feathers on it and the beak turns to yellow. Its most salient feature is that the beak cleft goes beyond the rear of the eyes. It often appears in the neighborhood of seashores, river mouths, swamps, shoals, etc., mingling with other egretta families. It is the biggest of all the white egrets in Taiwan. With long legs, it often stands for a long time in deep water catching fish.
