Location of Appearance: The gate of the Park, plant reserved area, and the east of the pavilion.

It is a small-size woodpecker, with a length of 22 centimeters. It has a black back and white horizontal-striped spots on the wings. Its abdomen is gray with vertical-striped spots. It is gray on the head, with a waist covered with white horizontal stripes. White-faced, it has a dark-brown line across from the eyes all the way to the side of the neck. The male bird has red spots on the rear side of the head. It often shows up in the broad-leaved and coniferous forests at low and intermediate elevations. It will do spiral climbing when moving in the trees. After locating the insects hidden in the trees with its sharp sense of hearing, it cracks open the bark to prey on them. It often lets out “pee, pee” sounds.
